EXTRANEAL (Icodextrin) Peritoneal Dialysis Solution
Unique Mechanism of Action

- Icodextrin is a glucose-free osmotic agent
- Because of its high molecular weight, icodextrin induces ultrafiltration by colloid osmosis: water is transported across the small intercellular pores of the peritoneal capillary membrane
- Colloid osmotic pressure gradient is maintained for the duration of the long dwell due to the slow rate of absorption of icodextrin via the lymphatic system

Enhances ultrafiltration and fluid management
Decreases carbohydrate absorption and caloric load
